工地進展

The Austin Convention Center redevelopment and expansion reached major milestones, and as of April 2026 is on track to open in early 2029. The Design Development Phase completed in October 2025, which means the project is now in its final design stage, which will continue through 2026.

Construction continues to move forward, with the completion of structural demolition and construction of the diaphragm wall, the first permanent structural element supporting the expanded six-block footprint.

Excavation is 50% complete and will continue through 2026. As of March 2026, 470,000 cubic yards of soil have been removed—the equivalent of filling Barton Springs Pool 32 times. The first crane has been installed, and crews will be pouring the foundation throughout 2026.

Sustainability is a top priority, and we’re on track to achieve LEED Certification. As part of the certification process, the work is focused on salvaging, recycling, and repurposing materials from the original facility that would have gone to the landfill.

Some highlights:

  • Structural steel is being evaluated for reuse to reduce waste and the need for new materials.
  • Pohl metal panels will be cleaned, restored, and reused.
  • Jamie Carpenter’s iconic blue art glass will be removed and stored until it’s repurposed in its new home.

These are just a few early steps toward meeting our ambitious sustainability goals—and we’re only getting started.

Stay tuned in to our progress
