The Austin Convention Center redevelopment and expansion reached major milestones, and as of June 2026 is on track to open in early 2029. The Design Development Phase completed in October 2025, which means the project is now in its final design stage, which will continue through 2026.
Construction continues to move forward, with structural demolition and construction of the diaphragm wall—the first permanent structural element supporting the expanded six-block footprint—now complete. The first and second cranes have been installed, and the third and final crane is being installed. Crews have begun pouring the foundation, work which will continue throughout 2026.
Excavation is 76.06% complete, and as of June 2026, 746,000 cubic yards of soil have been removed with 154,000 cubic yards to go. This is equivalent to filling the Texas State Capitol Dome from floor to ceiling 13 times.

Sustainability is a top priority, and we’re on track to achieve a 4-star AEGB rating and LEED Gold certification. As part of the certification process, the work focused on salvaging, recycling, and repurposing materials from the original facility that would have gone to the landfill. This commitment started on day one, allowing us to exceed our 75% waste diversion goal by salvaging materials from the original structure—currently at a 79% diversion rate.
